It’s been four months since Shelley Rabbitt arrived here as our new Home Manager. But Ashridge Court is actually home from home to Shelley who’s lived locally for many years. Having started her career as a mental health nurse, progressing to home and then regional management roles, Shelley moved over to CQC to spend four and a half years working in regulation. She admits that when the Ashridge Court Home Manager role came up, she “jumped at the chance to do a hands-on role again”.
“I
wouldn’t change it for the world – I just love people!” she says. “From
personal experience, I know all too well how ill health, especially dementia,
can impact on someone and their family.”
Before
starting as Home Manager, Shelley first came to Ashridge Court as a mystery
shopper – with her mother! “Mum absolutely loved it and walked out of
the home saying that it had changed her opinion of homes and that she would
happily move in there. The people were so friendly and passionate about what
they were doing so I am truly delighted that I was offered this opportunity.”
One key priority is to encourage residents to take on a
greater role in running the home. Shelley is also keen to build on previous
work done by the home to engage with the local community.
In paying tribute to her staff, she adds: “The best thing
about being a part of a great team is that you always have someone by your
side, I shall endeavour to be that person – to be here when needed, be part of
and to lead the team.”
