Eve’s Journey Of Confidence & Creativity At Ashridge Court

resident with art work

Eve was born in Holland and moved to the UK when she was 19. Now 81 years old, she has spent the last four years living at Ashridge Court Care Home after coming from hospital with a range of health issues.

When she first arrived she was quieter and more withdrawn. She was still very much a passionate artist but needed time and gentle encouragement to settle into her new surroundings. The staff took time to get to know her, understand her interests and support her day to day wellbeing in a calm and respectful way.

Over time she began to grow in confidence. With encouragement to take part in activities and social opportunities within the home she slowly started to engage more with others. She now attends resident meetings and has become much more social in daily life. She has also built friendships within the home which has made a real difference to her overall wellbeing.

Art has remained a very important part of her life throughout. Her talent and love for creativity is well known at the home and her artwork has been proudly displayed in her room. Eve has also given her friends here at Ashridge Court some of her paintings for their rooms too. It is something she continues to enjoy and express, and it has played a key role in helping her feel settled and valued.

She has two children and grandchildren who are an important part of her life and she often speaks about her family with warmth.

Staff have seen a clear change in her since she first arrived. One member of staff said:
“Since being at Ashridge she has become a social butterfly, engaging fully with activities with arts and crafts”

Her health and confidence have both improved since moving into the home and she is now more engaged in daily life than when she first arrived. Her journey at Ashridge Court Care Home reflects how gentle encouragement, consistent support and meaningful activity can help someone regain confidence and enjoy a fuller more connected life.
