Canford Healthcare is delighted to announce that we have won two awards at the 2021 Care Home Awards.

Beating off stiff competition, we were named Best for Communication and Best for Non-Clinical Facilities at a glitzy awards lunch at the National Conference Centre in Solihull today.

The Best for Communication award celebrates the strength of our communications channels across each of our 11 homes with residents, their families, friends and care home staff during the pandemic. The judges recognised our efforts to ensure that everyone, including professionals and our local communities, were fully informed about our response to Covid-19, and clear about what we needed them all to do differently to promote safety within each home. By keeping everyone informed, and up to date on the frequent changes, this helped reduced the anxiety of our staff, residents and resident families, in particular.

Non-clinical facilities, better known as activities, play a vital role in helping to support residents’ physical and mental wellbeing and overall quality of life. Many live with dementia and other complex health needs and our homes’ activities and our wellness teams work hard to provide varied and meaningful activities for all. We practise existing skills and build new ones, developing creativity and enhancing physical and cognitive fitness. In 2020 the pandemic put paid to trips out and (generally) visits by relatives and outside entertainers, so our teams had to use all their ingenuity in planning activities to entertain and boost residents’ morale, as well as their wellness.

We would like to dedicate these two awards to our staff, in recognition of their hard work, dedication and selfless devotion to residents and each other during a difficult and uncertain time. Everyone rose magnificently to the challenge in all aspects of care given to residents, but particularly in the creativity of the wellness programmes and the excellence of the flow of communication.
